Though no one would have chosen such a predicament, Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing flood have provided New Orleans with a rare opportunity over the last decade: to choose the shape and texture of many of those pillars supporting its people, businesses, and institutions. We asked experts in each of these fields to tell us what New Orleans can do, a decade on, to make itself better than before—and what other cities might learn from its experience.
