The public perception of a prison has stayed the same for 200 years: a cellblock, bars on the windows, barbed wire, isolation. But what if the architecture were different? What if it were designed to rehabilitate as well as incarcerate? There are efforts across the globe to do just this. We asked some scholars to help us understand the thinking behind these designs.
